Ibn Majed is one of the most prominent oceanographers and astronomers in the world. He lived in the 15th century in one of the cities of the United Arab Emirates. He learnt the art and science of oceanography and spent his life doing research to develop tools and machines for sailing. He was ahead of his time and published Fawa'dh fi-Usl Ilm al-Bahrwa-al-Qawaidah (The Book of the Benefits of the Principles of Seamanship).
